BaNGA Africa

BaNGA-Africa is funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York and is a follow-up to the Carnegie Next Generation in Africa project. It aims to contribute to the attainment of a critical mass of PhD holders on University of Ghana faculty, improve doctoral training at UG and enhance the quality and volume of research outputs from UG. This new programme provides opportunities for post-doctoral fellowships and for the development of the research capacity and outputs of early career faculty.  Specific activities that may be funded include:

  • Short-term fellowships to consolidate doctoral training experiences;
  • Post-doctoral attachments to improve and acquire new research skills;
  • Collaborative initiatives to establish research networks and joint research grant proposal development;
  • Time away to write-up research findings for publication;
  • Seed research grants to initiate new research or complete an ongoing research project.
Africa-UniNet / OeAD

Africa-UniNet is the Austrian-African Research Network established to strengthen long-term cooperation between universities and research institutions in Austria and Africa. The network promotes new institutional and scholarly connections, deepens scientific cooperation, and creates opportunities for innovative collaborative research between African and Austrian researchers.

The Sustainable Gender Equality, Diversity and Social Inclusion Education through Oral Narratives in Mabia Cultures of Ghana (S-GEDSI) project is an Africa-UniNet Research Cooperation Project (Project No. P115_Ghana), https://africa-uninet.at/en/projects/call4/p115-ghana, implemented collaboratively by the Institute of African Studies, University of Ghana, the Department of African Studies, University of Vienna, and the University for Development Studies, Ghana. The project runs from September 2024 to August 2026 and received a grant of EUR 29,910.

The project is funded by OeAD – Austria's Agency for Education and Internationalisation under the Africa-UniNet programme. OeAD supports international cooperation in education, science and research and coordinates the Africa-UniNet programme, which provides a platform for sustained African-Austrian research collaboration.
