BANGA-Africa Team Research Grant
The Sustainable Environmental Education and Climate Activism through Popular Culture (SEECAP) Project was supported by a BANGA-Africa Project IV Team Research Grant at the University of Ghana. The project brought together an interdisciplinary team of researchers with expertise in African Studies, linguistics, Indigenous Knowledge Systems, oral literature, cultural studies, gender studies, popular culture, environmental communication and community-based research.
Working collaboratively, the team documented and disseminated folktales, songs and other popular-cultural resources on environmental conservation, Indigenous Knowledge Systems, climate education and activism, with particular attention to contemporary environmental challenges in Ghana.
The research team comprised:
Associate Professor Hasiyatu Abubakari – Principal Investigator (PI) and Project Coordinator: Provided overall leadership and coordination of the project, including project planning and management, fieldwork and data collection, supervision of data processing, research writing, dissemination, archiving and project reporting.
Dr Edwin Asa Adjei – Co-Principal Investigator: Participated in fieldwork and data collection, research article writing, editing of project outputs.
Dr Abena Kyere – Co-Principal Investigator: Contributed to fieldwork and data collection, research writing and editing.
Ms Anuoluwapo Adewunmi Adetomiwa – Researcher/PhD Candidate: Contributed to fieldwork and data collection, research and literature review, article writing.
Ms Vivian Mawuli Gli – Researcher/PhD Candidate: Contributed to fieldwork and data collection, research and literature review, and article writing.
